Tirana International Airport (TIA, also called Rinas or Nënë Tereza) is small, modern and close to the city — on a clear run you can be at Skanderbeg Square in about 25 minutes. There are three ways to make that trip, and which one suits you depends mostly on when you land and how much you're carrying.
Option 1: The Rinas Express bus (cheapest)
A shuttle bus runs between the airport and the city centre, departing from directly outside arrivals roughly every hour through the day and evening. It's the budget choice — a few hundred lek, paid in cash to the driver — and it drops you near the National Museum by Skanderbeg Square in 30–40 minutes. The catches: it doesn't run overnight, timetables shift with the seasons (check the sign at the stop rather than old blog posts), luggage space is limited, and from the drop-off you may still need a taxi to your hotel.
Option 2: Airport taxis
Taxis wait in a line outside arrivals around the clock. Expect to pay roughly €20–25 to the city centre depending on the hour, and always agree the price before you get in — meters are rare on airport runs. It's a fine option for a daytime arrival with no booking, though quality and English vary car to car.
Option 3: A pre-booked private transfer
For late-night landings, families with luggage and child seats, or anyone who just wants zero friction after a flight, a pre-booked transfer is the comfortable answer: the driver tracks your flight, waits at arrivals with a name sign, and the price is fixed before you fly — no negotiation at midnight in a car park.

Which should you choose?
- Solo traveller, daytime, light bag: take the bus — it's honest value.
- Couple arriving in the evening: a taxi from the rank is fine; agree the fare first.
- Family, late flight, or first time in Albania: pre-book a transfer and make the airport the easiest part of the day.
